The Cure live in Nantes France 1989-07-04

The Prayer Tour
Live in Nantes, France
1989-07-04 Palais de la Beaujoire

Continuing with the 7 date run through France in Early July 1989, taking it to the next date from where we left off at Bordeaux on July 3rd 1989, here is Nantes on July 4th 1989. The quality is good, not spectacular, but it sounds good. The version of Faith is tremendous and clocking in at over 15 minutes long.

Setlist:
plainsong, pictures of you, closedown, piggy in the mirror, a night like this, just like heaven, last dance, fascination street, lovesong, charlotte sometimes, the walk, a forest, inbetween days, the same deep water as you, prayers for rain, disintegration,
Encores:
lullaby, close to me, let's go to bed, why can't i be you,
m, hot hot hot, three imaginary boys, boys don't cry,
homesick, untitled, faith

Oh, then you say and it's light outside
And you say again
And it's light outside
And go out to look... at what she...
At what she...
The mirage we shared

All the colors in my hand
Said things you
I'll stay inside of you

And my hand touching yours...
And my fingers still like the way it should
I reach your eyes

Say... if only you can be my friend
If only you can be my friend
Said that and she looked at me
Turned around like she wants to leave
If only you can be my friend
If only you can be my friend

Look... in stone face
To make a sign... make you mine
I can show you that
Show you that

Make you mine
Make you mine
Show you that
Show you that
Make you mine
I can make you mine
I can make you mine
I can make you mine

There's nothing left but faith

Alot of legends about this show....
Read some of the stories below:::
(thanks to cure-concerts.de and impressionofsounds.com for the words below)

from 'Ten Imaginary Years':
Robert: "My 21st birthday happened in Boston and after the gig, Bill and the four of us got taken to some art media event by this guy who was making a video of us. We had some drugs. I remember a TV and a set of homemade videos and we got bored and insisted this bloke drove us back to our hotel so he took us in his Beetle - the five of us and his girlfriend!"

"It was a little cramped so i got out and sat on the bonnet - it was about five in the morning so we thought we'd take the risk. Bill then decided to drive and went the wrong way round a roundabout without thinking. When he realised it, of course, he just kept on going round, laughing insanely and then he got hysterical, got a flat, slewed across the road and i fell of the bonnet."
"I tried to change the wheel - I don't know why I was doing it - but I couldn't understand why the hubcap wouldn't go back on so I started kicking it, and it was only a few seconds later, when the pain suddenly reached my brain, that i realised the reason the hub cap wouldn't go back on was because my thumb was traped underneath it. I'd just reduced it to pulp!"

"After that we drove to New York overnight but ended up in Cape Cod because Bill had taken a wrong turn! We eventually arrived at the airport just in time to catch the plane to get back to London for Top Of The Pops."

A few hours from Robert's birthday. The show was filmed by local art students. On the last encore, Robert Smith played some chords from Object to please somebody in the audience requesting the song. He also improvised the lyrics on Seventeen Seconds (from the encore) refering to his own birthday ! "21 years / A measure of life". The song was also dedicated to Mission Of Burma (on the same bill).

The odd facts of the night were the problems with delay pedals on 10:15 Saturday Night and especially on A Forest vocals, the echo not fading at all. After the show, Robert broke his thumb while changing a van's wheel on the way to the airport !

from 'A Visual Documentary':
21 APRIL 1980
The Underground Club, Boston. It is Robert's 21st birthday, and to celebrate, the band come on stage almost an hour and a half late. Robert then breaks his thumb changing the wheel on the van on the way to the airport.

This is an EXCELLENT quality recording of one of the earlier dates of the picture tour.

The master must've been insane, because even the first gen sounds incredible.

The Cure live in Paris, France - 1992-10-21 Audio Download

The Wish Tour live in Paris
Night 3, October 21st 1992
The Wish Tour, Night 3 in Paris France, at the Zenith to download.
The download links are down below all the reminiscing and pictures

Good setlist including The Big Hand and Forever. These were legendary shows.
The Wish tour had improved by the time that it hit Europe, but the paris shows,
while living in the showdow of some other performances (the finale in london and
a few others) were still something very special. The three were recorded for official
release by the band somewhat as a darker accompaniment to "show" So alot of great songs
got their full glory over the three night @ the Zenith. Including a superb version of Faith
on the night before. This, the third and final night, closed with one of the epic
1992 versions of a Forest into Forever.

The quality on this recording is EXCELLENT.
You can find the download links closer to the bottom of the page
under the setlist and pictures.

I would like to thank the wonderful Autumn @ picturesofyou.us for allowing use
of the photo at the top of the page. I would also like to thank Carl if he's still
out there for sharing his photos of this show!

Setlist:
shake dog shake, high, pictures of you, lullaby, just like heaven, the big hand, one hundred years, apart, a letter to elise, doing the unstuck, let's go to bed, friday i’m in love, inbetween days, from the edge of the deep green sea, never enough, cut, end,

Roger O'Donnell and Lol Tolhurst to Reunite with the Cure for Sydney 'Reflections' Concerts

"NEVER SAY NEVER"
 IT'S OFFICIAL!!

TheCure “Reflections”
Three Imaginary Boys (1979)
The Cure Trio: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums)

The Cure Quartet: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup(bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys)

Faith (1981)
The Cure Quintent: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup(bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys & percussion), LaurenceTolhurst (keys & percussion)

THE CURE “REFLECTIONS”added to line up for stephen PAVLOVIC’S VIVID LIVE at Sydney Opera house
Sydney Opera House today announced that the curator of Vivid LIVE, Stephen Pavlovic has secured one of the world’s most enduringly influential bandsThe Cure to perform for Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House. Appearing onstage with a uniquely evolving line-up of band members past and present, The Cure “Reflections” will see the band perform their first three albums live, in their entirety, in an extraordinary concert experience exclusively for Vivid LIVE on May 31 and June 1.
While punk was still reverberating through popular culture, The Cure’s unique blend of moody, atmospheric and unforgettable songs pioneered a new era in popular music and marked them forg reatness from the start. Their strong sense of theatricality and unique styling gave birth to entirely new subcultures and new generations continue to discover their signature sound and make it the soundtrack to their lives.
The Cure have toured Australia many times but have never attempted a show such as this on our shores.  Hear how they became the voice of generations with three releases that etched them into our consciousness. From the punchy, offbeat, starkly unadorned songs of Three Imaginary Boys, through the increasingly shadowy and quixotic pieces of SeventeenSeconds, to the singular melancholic grandeur of Faith, this is a rare chance to experience the origins of one of popular music’s greatest stories.
Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House (May 27– June 5) is a curated music festival and is part of Vivid Sydney (May 27 – June 13), the city’s annualfestival of light, music and ideas. Following on from Brian Eno (2009) and Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson(2010), Australia’s Stephen “Pav” Pavlovic of Modular has taken the reigns as curator for this unique event for 2011.
Vivid LIVE curator Stephen Pavlovic says "From my teenage years to the present day, The Cure have always been one of the most inspiring bands I have ever come across. To have the opportunity to include them in the line up is anhonour equal to curating VividLIVE"

The Cure’s Robert Smith says, “Vivid LIVE is an exceptional event, and we are very excited to be taking part. We have played a lot of memorable shows in Australia – we first performed here in 1980, and this will be our seventh trip – but it will be our first time onstage in the Sydney Opera House, and we want to do something unique to mark the occasion. Combining Cure members past and present in a live filmed interpretation of our first three albums feels to me like it should do the trick!”
The Cure join an incredible line up of local and international artists including SpiritualizedBat for Lashes, Chris Cunningham, The Avalanches, Sonny Rollins, Yo Gabba Gabba!, WU LYF, OFWGKTA and 2manydjs and more.

The Last Day of Summer, Live in Munich

Attempt # 2 at encoding this.
The Last Day Of Summer, Live in Munich April 9th 2000

Download the file here:

Out of this World - Live in Munich Germany, April 9th 2000

So while we wait for the news to come from Robert. In between frantically refreshing twitter, thecure.com, and COF, I'm working on sharing a really nice Dream Tour DVD with you all.

This is a preview of it. I'll be sharing with the complete DVD you, possibly later today, but more than likely it will be up tomorrow. Once I find a good app to convert the DVD without losing much of the quality it will go up. This is very very VERY nice document of the dream tour, the picture is clear as day, the closeups are incredible, the audio is also very nice, and I'm not sure which program to convert it with.....

For now here's part of Adagio for Strings and Out of this World for now:

I Uploaded the file here:

The Cure live at the Rosklide Festival, June 30th 1995

Rosklide June 30th 1995

The Cure live at the Rosklide Festival in Rosklide Denmark. The band performed in front of 110,000 people sharing the stage with REM, Suede, and Elvis Costello, among others.
This was part of a festival tour in the summer of 95 bringing together the Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Roger O'Donnell, Perry Bamonte, Jason Cooper lineup together that would go on to play many epic shows throughout the next seven years, and beyond.

Fans were treated to hearing the upcoming Wild Mood Swings tracks live for the first times at the summer festivals of 95.

Rosklide's setlist was:
Want, Fascination Street, A Night Like This, Pictures of You, Lullaby, Just Like Heaven, Trust, Jupiter Crash, High, Dressing Up, The Walk, Lets go to Bed, A Strange Day, Push, Mint Car, Friday I'm in Love, Inbetween Days, From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea, Shiver and Shake, Disintegration, End, Close to me, Why Can't I Be You, Charlotte Sometimes, A Forest.

The video unfortunately does not include the second encore. It starts out shaky, but becomes steady a bit into it. Split into four parts, and about 200MB each in .mp4 files.
I am looking for a better video encoder to share some more DVDs with you, any recommendations would be appreciated.

A setlist that we all dream of. The recording is excellent.
Enjoy.

The Cure Live in Holmdel NJ - June 16th 2000

The Dream Tour - June 16th 2000
PNC Bank Arts Center, Holmdel NJ

Two nights later and one long drive down from Mansfield MA brought us to Holmdel NJ on June 16th. After a somewhat average setlist at the show before this one (still great considering the songs used in this tour) yet still an average setlist. With the emotional "end of the cure" at Jones Beach looming in a few days, as was the Philly date in camden in que. Here we stood in the middle of nowhere, central NJ, with a half full ampitheatre, so needless to say....  I was not expecting much more for this show than what we saw in Mansfield, and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.

As soon as the band went into A night Like This I had a better feeling about this show.
It ended up being one of the best shows I saw on the dream tour. We didn't get the Faith encore that night, but Same Deep Water in the encore made up for it, into one of the better 21st century versions of Disintegration, The Pornography encore, Siamese Twins in the mainset. It was just a really great setlist and they band played really well. Robert was really on point at this show.

Setlist:

out of this world, watching me fall, want, fascination street, a night like this, the last day of summer, pictures of you, maybe someday, like cockatoos, from the edge of the deep green sea, inbetween days, if only tonight we could sleep, siamese twins, one hundred years, 39, bloodflowers,
Encores:
plainsong, the same deep water as you, disintegration,
cold, a strange day, pornography,
m, play for today, just like heaven, a forest

Find the download links below, the sound wasn't the greatest at this show, but this is one of the better recordings of it floating around.

The Cure CONFIRMED for Vivid Live, Sydney Australia !!!

The Cure (un)oficially confirmed by Music Feeds

Still no word from Vivid, Sydney Opera House, or the band.
Not really a big surprise on this, but something more solid surfaced...

Late last night Music Feeds gave word that the Cure will in fact be performing.
"Now music feeds can confirm this is true!
Another Vivid Artist, Azari & III have announced that
The Cure will be playing the festival."

They go on to say:
"The exact details of how many shows they will play
and what they will entail will be confirmed tomorrow,
but we believe there is a surprise in store"

Surprises Surprises Surprises.
Alot remains unanswered, however I think we can expect something nice given all the hype surrounding this concert.
Something more than another festival/singles/pop/90 minute set seems to be in the works.

Meanwhile this is all Vivid gave us:

The Cure Live in Bordeaux France, July 3rd 1989

The Prayer Tour - 3rd of July 1989
Pantinoire de Meriadec - Bordeaux France
July 3rd brought the Prayer Tour into France for a seven nights in the country.
Some spectacular like the two nights at bercy, some not so great like reims.
Bordeaux gave us a drunk talkative Robert and another excellent show.
No Faith encore, but the appearance of It's not you and Accuracy was nice.
Show ended with an extended Untitled with extra lyrics, also includes a
fantastic, as always, Same Deep Water As you and another drunken wild
extended Why Can't Be you, introduced as "Soft white bread inside my head" !

This is a very good quality audience recording digitized from the master tapes.

The Cure Live in Sydney, Australia NEXT MONTH!?

Thanks to Craig @COF for breaking this rumor this morning.

Are the Cure playing the Stunning Sydney Opera House between May 27th and June 5th?
We shall see, but Mess and Noise, a local Sydney music magazine/site seems to think so.

There are strong indications that The Cure will be imminently announced as the “secret” act for Vivid LIVE.

Now, we know what you’re thinking, they’re not on Modular, right? But the news has been gaining enough momentum on Twitter and the
M+N discussion board for us to think it’s more than just a few posters stirring the pot. Not only that, but event curator Stephen “Pav” Pavlovic played The Cure’s ‘A Forest’ on FBi Radio yesterday among a clutch of tracks by Vivid LIVE acts including Azari & III, The Crystal Ark, Wu Lyf and new Modular signing Dom. Make of that what you will.

More have been picking up the story:
http://themusic.com.au/newsletter/the-cure-as-part-of-vivid-live
http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/the-cure-to-play-vivid-festival/

But with no confirmation from the big man, we can just dream......

Who's in the band?
What are they going to play?
Does this have anything to do with the JJJ Faith petition?
Why was Craig dropping hints with Faith references?
Does anyone want to donate towards my airfare to Sydney?
So much left unanswered.......

Words from RSX are expected soon, 2011 could get very interesting, very fast.
